Thame Community pulling together to raise money for an amazing cause

So what is all the fuss about?  Is this event about more than a load of local dads and lads (and lasses) getting together to show Thame what they are made of and to raise a whole lot of cash for an amazing cause? Yes absolutely!

In the words of Stuart Gibson, the man behind the event, here is a little background to the big day:

“The idea for the event came to me one day when I was reflecting on how much the community has pulled together to raise money for the TVAA since the tragic event last December; from board game days at the school to individuals running half marathons and swimathons, the people of Thame have been awesome…

The idea was simple - let’s have a charity football match, the only challenge was we had just under 16 weeks in which to organise it! Luckily for me, those involved have been truly amazing in giving up so much time and worked crazy hours to get this event where we are today.

The footballing side was easy, I called on an old friend Martin Bell (AKA Bell and Spurling) who regularly plays for the Iron Maiden veterans’ team (known as the Iron Maiden XI) and he gladly agreed they would play against a Thame team now known as TVAA X1. The team is mainly made up of Dads whose children attend John Hampden School plus, in footballing terms, a “few ringers” who have had to do their bit with some extra sponsorship therefore justifying a place in the team.

Endless emails and phone calls later and the day is nearly here, please come along to support the event and leave with a smile on your face knowing that your contribution no matter how big or small will go towards saving lives.

At StuartBarr CDR, BarrKitchens and BarrJoinery we would like to say well done to the organising committee for getting this amazing event ‘off the ground’ so quickly (if you will excuse my little air ambulance pun!) and for the opportunity to support our community in this special way.  We look forward to seeing you all there from 12-4pm this Bank Holiday Monday (1st May).  It has been a few years since our director got his legs out on a football pitch - we are all very much looking forward to the spectacle!

There is going to be so much more going on alongside the big match: Zorb football, bouncy castle, candy floss/popcorn, princess corner, ice cream van, luxury raffle, tattoo’s/face Painting, balloon artistry, cake stall, sweetie cones, strawberries’n’cream pots, kids lucky number, soft play, colouring table, Lego table, giant outdoor games, sumo suit wrestling to name but a few!

Oh and I nearly forgot… (in a whisper) could we let you into a secret? The raffle is not just a raffle; the prizes will make you not only want to empty your wallet, but also nip to the cash point to raid your bank account too!!   The likes of a brand new space grey iPad, some seriously hefty vouchers and a week in a large luxury villa somewhere very beautiful and sunny (sleeps 12!) are up for grabs.  Event tickets will be available on the day but also outside Thame Town Hall on Saturday 29th April and at MiTP on Sunday 30th… just letting you know in advance, in case those cash machines dry up!
