3rd Oct 2016
From chillies to pulled pork, local beers to fine wines, Thame Food Festival is undoubtedly centre of all things foodie in this part of the world. The 2016 festival attracted over 20,000 visitors and the High Street was buzzing with excitement and awash with colour.
BarrKitchens are based somewhat off the beaten track, on a fabulous farm site just outside Thame, and welcome the opportunity to tell people where we are and what we do. Thame Food Festival gives us and many other local companies the stage to do just that. Thame Food Festival has brought us in touch with, not only the general public, but also other local companies with whom we have continued to collaborate throughout the year in other capacities. As last year, our team provided functional and creative support for the event, designing and building infrastructure to set the scene for ‘The Big Thame Bake’, organised and hosted by cookery writer Jane Hornby.
Live on the Baking Stage on Thame Food Festival Saturday, the Big Thame Bake has ridden high on the wave of the infamous BBC’s Great British Bake Off, just as it approaches grand final fever pitch! It gives baking enthusiasts the opportunity to challenge themselves against the best the local community has to offer. Standards were once again stunningly high as local bakers really did “get their bake on”! On a sunny September morning a parade of the most amazing creations and perfect bakes arrived at Thame Town Hall. As always judging was a tough task. Luckily the expert panel included Nadiya, 2015 winner of Great British Bake Off, and Benoit Blin, Head Pastry Chef at Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons - and so was utterly qualified for the role and able to award deserving winners.
As organisations, The Barr Group Companies and Thame Food Festival share similar values: a passion for quality and creativity, a desire to do things differently and a strong community spirit. We look forward to working with the Thame Food Festival team in the years to come and hope we will always be able to contribute something new and exciting to this wonderful event.
The Barr Group Companies are hosting a Home Show this Saturday (8th October) - just two weeks after the Thame Food Festival. Our workshops will be open and in full swing and consultations will be available with resident and external experts to offer advice on all elements or your home design and build. Local MP, John Howell and the Mayor of Thame, Linda Emery, will be joining us at 10 am to open our ’Of the Moment’ newly renovated kitchens showroom and to meet the apprentices of our award winning apprenticeship scheme. Come along between 10 and 3 for free advice, award winning bakes and some fabulous visual inspiration.
