The Big BarrKitchens Christmas DISH-OFF

Early on on a crisp December Monday morning the BarrKitchens showroom was transformed into a studio - for the filming of a Flash Mob style Christmas Dish-Off Special. Click here to view the footage!

The BarrKitchens showroom is tucked away on Field Farm, just outside Thame, and as a result it takes people a little while to find us. We decided to have a bit of fun and to bring BarrKitchens to you…with a little help from ThameTV! ThameTV, sister company of Scissor Paper Stone (www.scissorpaperstone.tv), brings local businesses together through the production of high quality footage of local events.

BarrKitchens had invited three well-known local foodie businesses into the showroom and asked each of them to produce a mouthwatering dish for our tasting panel to judge.  Our Dish-Off stars were:

- Chef Matt, of The Hundred of Ashendon www.thehundrend.co.uk, a gastro pub with a reputation for quirky dishes, locally sourced ingredients and this year awarded the Michelin Bib-Gourmand!

- Foodie entrepreneur Kim, of UGG Foods www.uggfoods.com , a company which makes natural healthy eating both delicious and easy by offering pre-mixed baking solutions and winning several awards along the way.

- Ros and Hen, founders of Hampton Cookery, www.hamptoncookery.com, the Haddenham based cookery school, which aims to enthuse and inspire students, through a combination of demonstrations and ‘hands on’ experiences.

The day started with the bustle of crew and chefs, lighting, sound equipment and an intriguing array of ingredients - the dishes were to be complete surprise. Cat, our presenter, had turned the tearoom into ‘hair & makeup’, much to the surprise of the joinery boys when they came up for their tea! 

Soon food prepping and filming commenced - with each participant having the opportunity to tell the camera a little about their businesses and dish-off choices. Locally sourced chanterelle mushrooms from The Hundred, aromatic lamb tagine from the Hampton girls and yummy gluten free Christmas baking from Ugg Foods. 

Our specialist judging panel; Nicola Dixon - Mayor of Thame, our very own Stuart Barr, Joanne Hawkins - Meile Business Development Manager and Julie - Manager of Aga Thame (also our sponsors) completely got into the spirit of things. Judging was to be a seriously tricky job (lucky panel I say!). They seemed to be taking their time and eating more than just a taste of each dish - along with a glass of two of bubbly!

The Big BarrKitchens Christmas Dish-Off 2015 went live on YouTube last week. We hope that the Dish-Off inspires small local businesses everywhere; after all, they are what make our communities totally individual and truly special.
